Due to the prevalence of COVID-19 in our area, processes for evaluating illness in school may be a little different this year. The Minnesota Department of Health has released a document explaining the symptoms of COVID and what to do if students and staff in school show any symptoms. Listed below are the “Less Common” and “More Common” Symptoms associated with COVID, and the process of evaluating and responding to them.
“Less Common” Symptoms of COVID: sore throat, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, chills, muscle pain, excessive fatigue, new onset of severe headache, new onset of nasal congestion or runny nose.
“More Common” Symptoms of COVID: fever of 100.4 or higher, new onset and/or worsening cough, difficulty breathing, new loss of taste or smell.
If a student presents to the nurse/office with any number of new onset (not related to allergies or pre-existing condition) symptoms, we will be following the MN Dept. of Health’s recommendations for whether or not they should remain in school.
