Nickelback was formed in Hanna, Alberta by Chad Kroeger, Mike Kroeger, Ryan Peake, and Brandon Kroeger.  The band is now based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.  The band’s name originates from the nickel in change that band member Mike Kroeger often had to give customers in his previous job at Starbucks, he would frequently say “Here’s your nickel back”.

Their hit single “How You Remind Me” from their third album, Silver Side Up, was the first single to bring them into the spotlight; and ever since they have received major commercial success. The single reached the top of the Canadian Singles Chart and the Billboard Hot 100 at the same time, making them the second Canadian band to accomplish this.

So far, they have sold almost 15 million albums in the U.S., nearly 2 million albums in Canada, and almost 25 million records worldwide.

Their latest release, All The Right Reasons, has sold over 6 million albums in the U.S. and over 9 million albums worldwide, and produced five U.S. Hot 100 top 20 singles, “Photograph”, “Savin’ Me”, “Far Away”, “If Everyone Cared”, and “Rockstar”.

The band has won nine Juno Awards, two American Music Awards, an MTV Video Music Award, and a World Music Award.  The band has been nominated for seven Grammy’s, and four American Music Awards.  In December 2006, they won three Billboard Music Awards out of five nominations.

Nickelback joined the 6 million sales club with their album All the Right Reasons, making it the 16th albums so far in the 21st century that has reached that level.
