The Arabian horse orginated from the desert lands of Asia and the most famous are the horses of the Bedouin Arabs, known as the Original or Elite Arabian. Through selective breeding the Bedouins developed an Arabian horse which was tough and yet beautiful. It was these horses that were used as calvary horses by the Moslems and taken to North Africa and into Spain and France. Many Arabians were left behind when the Moslems left and were left to breed with local horses creating such breeds as the Andalusian horse. The UK imported Arabians in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century from Arabia.
Now one of the most popular breeds in America, the Arabian's incredible energy, intelligence, and gentle disposition allow riders to excel in most equine sports and activities. Today, Arabian horses spend as much time on the trail as they do at horse shows and other competitive events.

With today's prices comparable with other popular breeds, excellent Arabian horses are now accessible to a broad base of horse enthusiasts. And, with more living Arabian horses in the United States than in all the other countries in the world combined, America has some of the best horses and breeding farms from which to choose.

It is not unusual for one's friends to ask, "What does an Arabian horse do that makes them so valuable? Why did you buy an Arabian?"

The answer to that question is complex. First, people all over the world are falling in love with the beauty of Arabian horse without even understanding why. Perhaps "The nostalgic Black Stallion" books and movies helped; perhaps the animals that appeared on earlier TV series like "Dynasty" did it. Whatever the cause, the result is clear. Over the last three decades, the Arabian horse has become one of the most popular horses in the world.

Because of their great intelligence and sensitivity and because they have been domesticated for at least 3,000 years, Arabians are gentle, tractable creatures who, if permitted, develop a close relationship with their owners. Many owners' comment that the Arabian horse has brought their families a new closeness and newly acquired involvement in a special interest.

If your looking for a companion who'll be your partner in adventure or competition, and your friend for life, then an Arabian may be just the horse your looking for. The most popular activity with all horse owners is recreational riding-- the Arabian horse is no exception. The loyal, willing nature of the Arabian breed suits itself as the perfect family horse. His affectionate personality also makes him a great horse for children.
